Framework
HR AI Forward Maturity Framework
A structured model for measuring and developing AI capability in HR professionals. 4 levels. 12 stages. Each stage reflects a distinct pattern of how AI is used, integrated, and led.
What the Assessment Measures
The HR AI Maturity & Growth Assessment evaluates how HR professionals currently use AI across their day-to-day work. It does not test technical knowledge — it measures real behavioral patterns: how AI enters your workflow, how consistently it is used, and how structurally it is embedded into what you do.
- —Core questions assess current AI usage patterns across key HR functions
- —Scenario questions present realistic HR situations and ask how you would respond
- —An open question captures your self-described approach in your own words
- —Profile questions (role, team size, tenure, industry) inform benchmarks but do not affect your score
The 4 Levels
Traditional HR
AI has not yet entered the working style. Work relies on manual processes and traditional HR tools.
Works entirely through manual processes. No AI tools in daily workflow.
Aware of AI but has not yet adopted it. Exploring what it means for HR work.
Has tried one or two AI tools in isolation, but without consistent use or structure.
AI-Enabled HR
AI is used as a personal productivity tool. Capability is real but still limited to individual task efficiency.
Uses basic AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT) for simple tasks. Still learning what is possible.
Regularly uses AI tools across several HR tasks. Comfortable with prompting and output editing.
Has established personal habits and prompt patterns. Consistent and intentional AI use across daily work.
AI-Ready HR
AI is embedded into the working method. Capability has become repeatable, transferable, and structurally integrated.
AI is integrated into specific workflows, not just tasks. Begins influencing team or team-adjacent processes.
Actively builds reusable AI-powered methods. Able to transfer knowledge and help others adopt AI.
Operates at a high level of AI integration. AI capability is a core part of professional identity and output.
AI-Native HR
AI drives processes and systems at scale. Reached by a small minority of HR professionals who operate at the frontier.
Experiments with AI at the systems level — agents, automation pipelines, cross-functional AI integration.
Runs AI-powered HR systems in production. Can design, monitor, and iterate on automated HR processes.
Defines how AI-native HR functions operate. Influences others and shapes the field.
